What does the recruitment process look like? How do I begin?

If you are looking to go home in 1-2 years time, it is best to start the process now as it can take awhile for everything to fall into place.
Step 1 - Register for full registration with the Malaysian Medical Council
Check out our - Clinician's Guide to MMC Registration
Have a look before applying to see if you meet the criteria. This can often take as long as 1 year so start early!
Step 2 - Apply to be on the National Specialty Register
If you havent done so already, please take a look at our detailed guide on how to apply to be on the NSR linked here
Again, this can take awhile so consider applying immediately after receiving your Full registration with the MMC.
Occasionally, the NSR will require you to have additional experience in the public sector eg. 6 months in KKM as an associate specialist before granting specialist status. Often, this is not a bad outcome as it can be useful to work in the public sector before going fully private to understand how the health system works.
Step 3 - Apply for Exemption from Compulsory Service
Check out our article - Do I need to work for the government if I go home?
The short answer is maybe! There is a criteria for total exemption of compulsory service and it is our experience that even if you don't meet this, UK doctors often get exempted.
